Welcome to 2024!
The new Year Has arrived.
And another year of reading for me.
I’m surprised over myself that I’m able to read this much. I really hated it back in school. And I also do have Dyslexia.
But I was able to read 9 different books.
And last year I finally took the step into the fiction world!
Only been reading non-fiction books about productivity, health etc.
But 2023 I started to read The Witcher.
I’m able to read at least 1 book a month. If I’m having a good month.
I’m also trying to read 20min each morning after my breakfast.
But some days my head has too much inside, or I’m tired. Unable to read because of that.
But 8 books is pretty good! It might have been 9 if I was able to complete reading another The Witcher book. But had to much going on in life.
I have also read plenty of volumes of manga. And wont stop there either. Even got 4 new ones from my brother.
I’m currently reading both Blue Period and Jujutsu Kaisen.
Let’s see what I will read this year! 😁
❄️ My Art Journey
It’s been nice to be on a little break from writing and making videos. Been focusing more on art courses during this time. Been working on the Portrait course over at Artwod. (Artwod review will come)
And now I’m doing ”how to Draw Bears” by Aaron Blaise. Learning to draw Grizzly Bear. And its kind of nice following a long while he draw. Not sure why I have not done this before!
My Christmas was calm with family. New Year was a disaster.
And do you know what? We had SNOW on Christmas eve! Can you believe it?! Last time that happen is around 10 years ago. And later that night it started to snow too. Gosh best Christmas in a very long time.
I also got plenty of new books. 3 art books, one of them you will see bellow. Percy Jacksson collection, biography about Charlotte Kalla (Skiier) , 4 manga books and a Figure. Two things I bought myself.
I hope you had a great Christmas and New Year.
(Image 1) Before Christmas I always watch the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. And this time I found a frame from one of the movies of Gollum and was drawing it in Procreate, while watching the movies.
(Image 2) Golden Eagle is my first real illustration done in Rebelle 7. And I got very happy with it.
(Image 3) My first course I started to watch at ArtWod was about Drapery. So I felt I wanted to draw some clothed study in Rebelle 7. To also see how it feels to sketch there. It become my last drawing of 2023 🤪
(Image 4) First drawing I worked on in Rebelle 7 was this Vapour Spraying. It will turn out to be a story over at Patreon in the near future. But the thing is it was fun when I started this drawing. But then days passed, so when I completed it I was bored. With other words, not happy with it.
❄️ Rebelle 7 Review
I tested and reviewed Rebelle 6 few weeks ago. Remember?
Well during that time they announced Rebelle 7. And I liked Rebelle a lot when I tired it out. Was even planning on buying it during black Friday if they had a sale.
But because new version was coming I bought that when it was 80% off. I went with the pro version so I unlocked everything.
And I loving it even more now!
Rebelle 7 is finally native on Apple Silicon, I do have M1 Max. And I feel the change. The brush strokes are just more smooth than before. But some brushes like the oils etc (with deep texture) get laggy the bigger the brush. Something that is not there in other Native drawing softwares.
But the dripping stuff is still very slow. Maybe there is a setting to speed it up, I’m not sure. But I’m not even sure if I will use that feature at all.
What New things in Rebelle 7:
Metallic Materials (PRO)
Powerful Brush Creator
Full-color ultra-realistic paper, canvases, and other art surface
Background structures
Path (vector)
Filter Layers
Straight line, Ruler & Perspective Tools
MotionIO animation scripting tool
Native Apple Silicon compatibility
So not many Pro feature added this time around. But they were added with Rebelle 6.
They are:
Pigment Color Mixing
NanoPixel technology
Fractal image processing
Color Management
Color soft proofing
Gamut warning
Photoshop plug-in (might have come earlier than 6)
In Rebelle 6 they added something called NanoPixel. It kind of makes everything sharper for lines, you see the texture in the paper and so on. I turned it on and never looked back. If it’s off I see the pixel line, and I don’t like that.
🟠PROS: The brush strokes are more smooths. Better texture when painting. A lot of controls for each brush settings. And I mean A LOT!
🟠CONS: Some big brushes lags. You need to manually log in on their site to see about updates. The installation is not like other programs. (At least not for Mac) No photoshop brushes support.
Over all I’m in love with this program! I don’t understand why I have waited this long to really try it out.
And I’m happy Corel Painter 2023 did not work for me so I could get this one instead.
You will see videos & streams of me using this program from now on! Together with Procreate and Clip Studio Paint.
❄️ Castlevania: The Art of the Animation
From game to animation series on Netflix.
If you loved watching The series Castlevania this book will be a great addition in your collection!
They cover all seasons. A lot of character designs of the good and the bad. Some creature designs. And of course some animation key frames.
They explore mostly characters over environment. And the environments are very dark. Its little hard to make it out.
And yes, everything in this series does play out in the dark.
It’s about vampires after all.
But would have been nice to see the same scene in day light as well, so you could make out of it.
Over all its a beautiful book. And its nice to read about their thoughts in the making of these designs.
Got this book as a Christmas present from my parents.
What device are you using Rebelle 7 on?
