What up!
Tuesday 26th of March, when I check my emails I have one from Serif, The company behind Affinity Photo/Designer/Publishing.
In that email it said ”Canva has bought us”. And my heart just sunk to the Mariana Trench….
For years when Canva has bought something they have either turned it into Subscription or shut it down.
And I fear that when V3 rolls out, a subscription will happen on Affinity apps..
V1 lasted around 9 years before V2 arrived. V3 will come much sooner. Maybe even next year or 2026.
Why I think this?
Well if Canva wants it to become Subscription they want it fast.
Gosh I’m so sad right now! Because I just started to like these apps much more! And then they do this!
Another red flag is that it only took 2 months for it all to happen! Little too fast in my opinion.
Mark my words: Subscription is coming!
I’m not a fan of the CEO’s respond on the forum either. Sure having a Sub that also give Canva and cloud is a good deal.
But if this would in any way reduce updates for people going for ”one time payment” then it would just be a waste!
Something Clip Studio Paint is already doing. Something that made me stop using it.
But if Canva just bought this company and support them with money and let them do their own race. Then yea, I’m all for it!
That would mean more and better updates are coming!
🌿My Thoughts about AI
I never really talked about the AI stuff happening right now.
Mostly because I did not fully understand what’s going on.
And second, should I even care?
When first AI started rolling out artists started to freak out. Some even stopped all together. Why I don’t understand.
Why? Because a robot or these tech bros will never feel what we feel.
The happiness of something we are proud of. The struggle of stuff not working our way.
Ups and downs!
The only reason people can even use AI is with all of the stolen art around the inter web. All in a little database somewhere.
Without those websites where we share our craft, no AI stuff would work.
But is AI all that bad? Not in all areas. What do I mean by that? Well hear me out.
Using AI to help finding cancer is amazing! A computer might see something that human eyes miss after a very hard day at work. (Or the other way around)
Or it might help a person with dyslexia to write their essay correctly.
Or in the near future use it as reference and photo bashing in the art industry.
It’s a lot of possibilities with AI if it’s done right!
I have never used any of those sites that makes those images. But I have used others.
I used a site that took my YouTube videos into shorts. So easy! No need for me to open up DaVinci Resolve and spend energy on that.
Did I use those shorts? No, I stopped uploading shorts before that.
Some of them turned out really good, others, naa. Hit or miss!
I also tested ChatGPT, Craft Docs used it in their app. But started to use the real thing instead. Just to give me little ideas for titles, video topics and so on. Nothing about writing full scripts or anything like that. I’m not the biggest fan of what ChatGPT produce.
But if ChatGPT was out when I was still in school, I would. Because of my dyslexia. To use it to help me write the essays right. In the right grammar etc.
Not to write it for me. Just to help.
So no AI is not all bad if it’s done right! But AI should not replace anything. What is the fun in that?
”Hey robot do this for me”, and the robot respond ”yes, sir!”.
No I would not use any AI to create my work. I would only use it to get a better workflow.
I would use it to create reference images if I cant find what I have in mind.
I would not use it and say it mine. Nah. I want to create my own stuff!
Rebelle using AI, so called NanoPixel to get better resolution. So you really see the texture.
Photo 1 RAW use it to remove Noise.
As long they use AI for better workflow I’m all for it!
I example started to draw more in my sketchbook. And the feeling when something just becomes right, is the best dopamine hit I know!
No robot would be able to do that. None.
So should you be afraid about AI? No. Yes AI can create time-lapse videos now, even if it’s traditional. But one thing these AI will never have are PERSONALITY.
So don’t be afraid to share your work. Because AI stuff will never really have energy and personality in its craft. Not even if you tell it to.
And if you are still afraid to post your art, use Glaze. That way no database would be able to use it the way they do now.
🌿My Art Journey
I wrote that last week was a bad week. Well this week has been even more awful! 😩
My dog ate something idiotic on our afternoon walk on Saturday. Night to Sunday he started to not feel good.
And when I thought things starting to look better, things got a u-turn. He stopped drinking water. And in the end we need to go to the vet with him. 1h of drip he got. Not fun to sit there with headache and hungry.
He eats so all good there. But I still need to force feed him water. I just hope he start drinking very soon!
And I have learned something new from all this. If my Energy is below 0, I have much higher risk to get a panic attack. Something I have gotten a few times this week.
Have less resistant against it, when having bellow 0 energy. Its a good thing after 10+ I finally realize this.
But I got some new books this week. Two non-fiction books and one drawing book. Already own one of Tim Pond books and liking them both!
The Swedish one says ”ADHD - From capable girl to burnt-out woman”. See if it can give me something new information.
For my art, well I have been trying to draw some this week. Did draw little while waiting at the vet. And did complete a new illustration.
I saw a beautiful photo on Vero and got inspired to draw my little version of it. And to use the colors from the image it self. To work with a color palatte, something I never do. Started it at dagligverksamhet on the iPad. Kept working on it on Desktop. And moved back to the iPad to complete it. Done in Affinity Photo.
What is your thoughts about AI?

Hey Jezz! I'm with you on the AI stuff. I think you saw my note yesterday on my other account, right? Those are my thoughts on AI right now. AI might replace some writing jobs here and there, but not now. It's not that good at creating anything truly valuable right now from a writing standpoint. I hope it stays that way for as long as possible.
Hi Jezz,
first sorry for your dog and glad to know he's better now. Dogs are able to eat anything...
AI :
1 today as I wanted to renew my Substack email banner, I just discovered that Canva now provides an AI to create different things. Well i'm not good at typing with words what I really want (imagination does not write itself, I'd prefer to copy paste my thoughts but this is not possible. And that's for good).
2 just as you said, I don't think AI is neither good or bad. As an AuDHD person, I'd like to benefit from all this apps that would preserve my energy .For example I wasn't aware that you could make shorts on youtube more easily with this app you mention. Anyway I also stopped doing shorts since it did not bring me subscribers... I feel like it just attracts "random" people who won't be interested in staying longer on my place.
3 I too think creation is a question of energy. And I have the intuition that maybe people in general will develop this sensoriality that some of us already have, I mean really sensing others energy (which can drain us but also allows us to feel if someone is faking or is genuine). It's also a way to realize that "true" art can only come from a place where someone put much time, a life's experience, and deep vulnerability, to craft a picture, a sound, a dance...
4 I can't let myself be too much afraid of all we could expect from AI. I'm aware of the many dangers it represents but if I should die tomorrow, I wouldn't have spent much time worrying about this.
5 Coherence is the most important thing for me, so I might become old fashioned but as long as I stay aligned with my values (taking care of myself and the others while respecting my energy), I feel like things will just go on.
6 a bit long, sorry I tried to list but... :)
